The Suburb Hunt quiz takes about two minutes and asks nine short sections. None of them is filler: every answer either filters suburbs out, moves the commute point the scores are measured from, or changes how the remaining suburbs are weighted. Here is what each one does.
1. About You
Your age range, whether you are new to the city, and who you are searching for — single, couple, family or housemates. This sets the household context for everything that follows: it decides how many workplaces the next section asks for and which later questions apply to you at all.
2. Workplaces
The work address for each person who commutes. These drive the commute centroid — the point every suburb's commute time is measured from. A couple with two workplaces is scored from the point between them, so a suburb that suits one job and punishes the other does not quietly win.
3. Your Situation
How long you plan to stay and how you will work. A fully remote worker is not penalised for a long commute; a five-days-in-the-office worker is.
4. Budget & Property
Your weekly rent budget, property type, bedrooms and (optionally) bathrooms. This is the quiz's core filter: a suburb whose typical rent sits well above your budget will struggle to make your three, however good its cafés are.
5. Must-Have Features
The one section you can skip. Anything you cannot live without — a garage, a balcony, a home office, in-unit laundry — sharpens the match against listings but never removes a suburb on its own.
6. Your Lifestyle
How often you eat out, your social style and how many cars you will have. Car count matters more than people expect: a two-car household in an apartment suburb where most people commute by train is a different fit from the same household in a house suburb where most people drive.
7. Family Situation
Kids, their age groups and school preference. Suburbs are compared on the schools within reach, never on a ranking — Suburb Hunt does not rate schools.
8. Pets
A yes here changes which suburbs fit and which properties do — the same answer is carried through to the listings you are shown.
9. Vibe & Priorities
Up to four things that make a suburb right for you — Walkability, Café culture, Nightlife, Quiet streets, Near beach and so on. This is the final weighting layer: two renters with identical budgets and commutes get different top threes because one picked walkability and the other picked space.
What you get at the end
Three suburbs, each with a match score, a written reason, and the data behind it — median rent, renter share, commute time — all readable on the suburb's own page, for example Ultimo or Bondi Beach.
